MAR DOMINIC KOKKAT C.S.T. (Bishop of Gorakhpur)

Bishop Dominic Kokkat was born at Vaikom, on 23 February 1932. He joined the Congregation of St Therese and made his religious profession on 18 May 1953. He did his studies at Kandy and Pune and was ordained priest on 4 October 1960. In addition to his ecclesiastical degree, he has secured a diploma in social development from Canada.

After his ordination he worked for six years as professor of Philosophy at the Little Flower Seminary, Alwaye and as Vocation Promoter of the Congregation. From 1972 to 1978 he was the Mission Superior of Little Flower Mission Jalandhar, Punjab. He was Assistant Superior General and Mission Secretary of the Little Flower Congregation till he was consecrated Bishop of Gorakhpur on 4 October 1984.
