MAR JOHN MENACHERY (1857-1919) (Former Bishop of Thrissur)

Dr. John Menachery was born at Narakkal on 2 July 1857. He was ordained priest in 1893 and was elected Bishop of Parluse and nominated Vicar Apostolic of the Vicariate of Trissur on 11 August 1896. Dr Menachery was consecrated bishop at Kandy on 25 October 1896 by Most Dr Zalesky, the Delegate Apostolic. On 4 November he assumed his office at Trissur. After a glorious period of episcopal ministry Dr Menachery passed away to his eternal reward on 19 December 1919. His mortal remains were interred in the Lourdes Cathedral, Trissur.
